LAHORE:
Sherakot police on Saturday registered an FIR against 200 people, including 15 rickshaw drivers who clashed with the police on Friday. No arrests have been made yet.
A police official said that Mazhar, the driver who started the protest by climbing up a pylon, had been nominated in the FIR under Sections 353 (assault on public officials to deter them from discharging their duties), 186 (obstructing a public servant from discharging public functions), 324 (deliberate killing), 144 (joining unlawful assembly armed with deadly weapons), 148 (armed rioting) of the Pakistan Penal Code. The official said that the police had raided Mazhar’s home but had not found him there.
Chief Traffic Officer Sarfaraz Falki directed City Division (Traffic) SP Mustafa Hameed to investigate the incident. He also asked Saddar DSP (Traffic) Malik Ikramullah to submit an explanation about the incident. Falki said that action will be taken against officers found neglectful.
