KARACHI:

Looking at the multi-billion dollar market for food, beverages and energy in Pakistan, for the first time a foreign event manager is coming to organise four international trade fairs this year.

fairtrade, a German-based international event manager having 20 years of experience, has decided to collaborate with Pegasus Consultancy in organising trade exhibitions in Pakistan.

Talking to The Express Tribune, fairtrade Senior Project Manager Monika Schadel said this partnership would facilitate Pakistani as well as international companies in showcasing their products.

Speaking at a ceremony organised to mark the partnership between the two exhibition organisers here on Thursday, Schadel said both companies had decided to focus on the multi-billion dollar market of food, beverages, hospitality and energy in Pakistan.

In reply to a question, she said Pakistan had a negative image in the world, which discouraged foreign companies from coming and doing business here. “Our company will try to dilute this negative image and tell international companies to do business with domestic companies,” she added.

fairtrade has organised international exhibitions and conferences in Germany, Russia, Ukraine, Algeria, Morocco and Iran and has a marketing network in over 12 countries.

Pegasus Consultancy Chairman Aasim Siddiqui said Germany was the birthplace of trade fairs and exhibitions that made a substantial contribution to its national economy.

“We hope the rich experience of both Pegasus and fairtrade will bring about new opportunities for the industry to establish and strengthen business ties with domestic and international business community,” he added.

Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) President Mian Abrar Ahmed said the KCCI was committed to supporting and developing an industrial base in Pakistan and praised the exhibition and tradeshow organisers for establishing business networks with foreign markets.

Discussing the importance of bilateral trade and commerce between Pakistan and the European Union, Ahmed said the KCCI would like to join hands with Pegasus and fairtrade to promote exports of Pakistan in European countries and regional markets.
