ISLAMABAD: An agreement has been signed between the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Radio Pakistan for installing a 500-kilowatt medium wave transmitter in Faqirabad village in Attock district on Wednesday, said a press release issued by JICA . The transmitter will replace the older one which was installed in 1976. A master control room equipped with the latest equipment and five studios will also be established on the premises of Radio Pakistan Islamabad. The transmitter will beam signals to most parts of the country during the day and all over the country at night. Director General Radio Pakistan said the transmitter will enable Radio Pakistan to extend its outreach in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Fata, Gilgit-Baltistan and Punjab. The project will take a year and a half to complete, he added. He thanked Japan for its assistance despite the destruction it witnessed due to the earthquake last year.
