LAHORE: Chief Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed of the Lahore High Court on Monday issued notice to the federal government and Ministry of Petroleum for March 16 on a petition challenging the recent increase in petroleum prices.

Advocate Muhammad Azhar Siddique has asked the court to stay the new price notification until the government responds to his earlier petition seeking details about how price revisions for petroleum products are determined, the various price alterations made under the current government’s tenure, as well as audited accounts of the respondents connected with the production and supply of petroleum products.

Siddique submitted that the government had raised prices again recently without responding to his previous petition. He said the regular price increases were causing inflationary pressure in other sectors of the economy and were unfair to the people.
