Crime against children: Neighbour accused of sexual assault

Villagers said they were attracted to the scene by the cries for help.

BAHAWALPUR: Baghdad police have registered a case against a man accused of sexually assaulting a five-year-old child in his neighbourhood in Basti Mahatma on Thursday. Investigation Officer Mohammad Afzal told The Express Tribune a police team had been formed to raid neighbouring village and arrest the suspect, Muhammad Nawaz. Arshad, one of the villagers who rescued the child from a field in Basti Mahatma, said Nawaz had fled on seeing them approach. He said they were attracted to the scene by the cries for help. Arshad said police later took the boy to Bahawal Victoria Hospital. Doctors who treated the child said his condition was no out of danger. They said DNA samples had been sent for forensic examination.
