Playing Diplomacy: UK secretary lauds pro-women laws

Commends the Prime Minister for taking the bold initiative to support the Afghan peace process.

ISLAMABAD: In a meeting with the UK Secretary of State for International Development Andrew Mitchell, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani expressed his firm resolve to uphold democratic values in the country. The British secretary commended the Prime Minister for taking the bold initiative to support the Afghan peace process as well as the successful series of significant pro-women legislations in Parliament. “I welcome the legislation passed by the Pakistani Parliament last week banning domestic violence, and also congratulate the nation on its first Oscar for an outstanding film,” said Mitchell.
