ISLAMABAD:

Pakistan and Qatar have decided to finalise a deal on import of 500 million cubic feet gas per day (mmcfd) Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) in the next three months.

We have set a three-month time frame to finalise the deal which is awaiting a final gas price, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Petroleum Dr Asim Hussain told journalists on Thursday after the second Session of Pak-Qatar Joint Ministerial Commission.

The imported LNG will be initially provided to the power houses in the country to generate 2,500MW of electricity.

Hussain said that a Pakistani team would be leaving for Qatar on Sunday to finalise a gas price.

The session was co-chaired by Dr Asim Hussain and Qatar Minister of Energy and Industry Dr Mohammad Bin Saleh Al-Sada.

On increased coordination, Hussain said that United Bank Limited would open a branch in Qatar while a Qatari bank would open a branch in Pakistan.

Pakistan has requested Qatar to support the case of Free Trade agreement (FTA) with Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). The Qatari side will look into supporting Pakistan’s request regarding convening of third round of Pak-GCC FTA.
