LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Thursday issued notices to federal and provincial governments after admitting for regular hearing the petition challenging the appointment of Habibur Rehman as the Inspector General of Punjab Police. Petitioner Chaudhry Muhammad Fakhir contended that newly appointed IGP, the then CCPO, had been declared partly responsible by a high court commission for the attack on the Sri Lankan Cricket team in 2009. He said that a departmental inquiry had also found him negligent. He prayed the court that the appointment be declared illegal. He also asked that the court direct the government to appoint, on merit, an “honest and dutiful” IGP.
