Ambassador Hoagland was told in clear terms that the move in the US Congress was contrary to the spirit of friendly relations and violates the principles of the United Nations Charter, international law and the recognised norms of inter-state conduct.
He was asked to convey the serious concern of the Government of Pakistan to the US Administration, said a statement of the Foreign Office.
The motion, which had been moved by Congressman Dana Rohrabacher and co-sponsored by House Representatives Louie Gohmert and Steve King, highlights Balochistan’s troubled past with the centre after the creation of Pakistan and calls upon Pakistan to recognise the Baloch right to self determination.
Today, a resolution was also filed in the Punjab Assembly secretariat to condemn the US bill on Balochistan and demanded that US Ambassador to Pakistan Cameron Munter be summoned in the house for an explanation.

It is true that India is energy starved. There is however no dependence on Pakistan for power. The bulk of electricity is through coal (some of which is Indian the rest imported from Australia), water and finally oil which comes from Iran, UAE, Saudi Arabia. None of the oil is routed through Pakistan.

I am an Indian so I do not know. I can only guess based on what I read. IT seems to me that while the drummed u anger through media and also through DPC jalsas was intended to gain leverage in negotiations with Americans, the move is likely to backfire for a couple of reasons: 1) They tried it earlier in the Raymond Davis case and there was a huge blowback so given how people feel about this, the parliament keeps postponing its decision on reopening the land route.
2) The Americans pay a higher cost no doubt for the other route but at some point I think they want to call the Pak army's bluff. So it is unlikely that that they will give anything more than what they were already willing to give in lieu of the land route ($2.2 billion of aid is for this alone. The whole notion that Pak army's 140,000 people are supporting the global war on terror is a lie told to Pakistanis by their leaders. Everyone else understand that they are simply fighting an internal insurgency by TTP. The Pak army does not attack Afghan Taliban or Haqqanis or even attempt to keep a check on them.
3) In absence of being able to claim that they got some additional benefits out of reopeing the land route, it is going to be very difficult to sell the reversal this time. 3 months of stoppage has hardened positions and it would be difficult to reverse the decision without some key gesture by US - which it has so far been unwilling to do.

I do not understand why Pakistan is fueling this issue so much. This will actually help the internationalization of the Baloch issue and give it more traction. One after another govt body is doing something or the other in every passing day and that keeps the issue alive and in the foremost headlines. How silly is it of Pakistan to volunteer for such wonderful publicity? Baloch nationalists must be very happen with the exposure that they have got by this one development.I have not seen or heard of such stupidity for a long time now.

Couple of points to consider: 1. Do you think US would care if you did that? 2. What the COngressman has proposed is a vote for self determination. Forget the White and Black Americans, do you think the Mexicans would vote to be part of US or choose to separate? Remember many of them are so attracted to US that they are in US illegally.
There is a lesson in this for Pakistan. Stop interfering in other nations and everybody else will stop it too. Good question. Except it was false bravado on part of 'some one'. The land route to US has already been withdrawn, US soldiers were never allowed on Pak soil, so they cannot be made to leave. The Shamsi airbase has been vacated. The 140,000 Pak soldiers on FATA border that Pak claims are supporting war on terror are doing no such thing. They are fighting TTP which is a local insurgency. Neither Haqqani nor Afghan Taliban are not being pursued by Pak forces.
