Canal Widening: Rs700m approved for road project

The road of both sides of Rakh Branch Canal would be widened to three lanes and 20 feet.

Provincial government has approved Rs700 million for widening of Canal Road in Faisalabad. The road of both sides of Rakh Branch Canal would be widened to three lanes and 20 feet.


This was announced by Faisalabad Development Authority Director Engineering Rashid Majeed in a meeting during his visit to Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) on Tuesday.

He said the width of the road would be the same as that of the Canal Road in Lahore. He said all connecting roads would also be repaired in the project. He said service lanes would be constructed to facilitate commute to and from housing colonies, schools and offices on both sides of the road. These, he added, would be constructed by 20 percent contribution from the CCB funds.

Director Engineering Majeed further told the meeting that the FDA planned to plant eight trees for every tree that would be knocked down in the project The FDA had already transferred Rs.5 million to Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) for the purpose, he added.
