Law and order: Wanted ‘criminal’ killed by police in shootout

Tanasib Khan was wanted in 11 cases, including kidnapping Dr Talal Ahmed.

The police claimed to have killed an alleged kidnapper of Dr Talal Ahmed, the managing director of Yahya Welfare Complex, during a clash between a gang of criminals and the police on Wednesday. However, no police official was killed or wounded in the crossfire.

District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Ali Khan told The Express Tribune that a police party raided a hideout in Chamba Pind village to arrest Tanasib Khan and his accomplices, when the suspects opened fire at the police. The police returned  fire in defence, killing Khan on the spot, while his accomplices managed to escape from the scene.

According to the DPO, Khan was wanted by the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab police in 11 cases of kidnapping, murder and robberies. He explained that Khan managed to escape along with four accomplices when the police raided a house in Taxila on December 29, 2011 to recover Dr Ahmed, in which four kidnappers, a police official and Dr Ahmed were killed.

Dr Talal Ahmed was kidnapped from Haripur on December 2, while he was on his way home from the hospital.

The police confirmed the kidnapping after recovering the doctor’s car from Hattar Road along with his driver, who was hit by a bullet in the head.
