NEW DELHI: This is with reference to Aakar Patel’s article of February 7, titled “Does India have a case in Kashmir?”
Me and my family have been a state subject of Kashmir since 1890 — my ancestors being from Amritsar. The Kashmir problem is a man-made one and can be resolved on a give-and-take basis by both India and Pakistan.
First of all, both countries need to understand that there is no alternative to peaceful coexistence. Both countries are confronted with poverty, hunger, illiteracy and ignorance and should be devoting their respective resources and budgets to fighting these rather than each other.

How would you know that? Have you been there? I have been there twice and most recently in 2010. Indian Kashmir is many times more affluent than its Pakistani counterpart – security presence notwithstanding. Of course, if you choose to subscribe to the propaganda, be my guest.
