Lahore police release monthly arrest numbers

LAHORE: Lahore police claimed to have exterminated about 77 criminal gangs involved in serious crimes, arrested 249 hardened criminals and registered 542 cases were traced against them, whereas they recovered stolen property worth Rs63.9 million during January, according to a statement released on Tuesday.

The police also revealed that more than 3392 proclaimed offenders and court absconders were also arrested.

The cases which were traced included one murder case, 27 dacoity cases, 239 robbery cases, 228 theft and burglary cases and 47 other cases.

The recovered property included Rs2.9 in cash, 31 cars, 91 motorcycles, 248 cellular phones, 25-tola gold jewelry, one wagon and one pick-up, two Suzuki Bolan, one rickshaw, two small Mazda cars.

The press release further said that the that the proclaimed offenders who were arrested were wanted in 49 murder cases, 54 attempt of murder cases, 60 dacoity cases, 227 theft cases, 133 robbery cases and 1505 other cases, while 1364 absconders were also arrested.

Lahore police registered 425 cases and arrested 425 culprits during a campaign against illegal weapons and recovered 3 Kalashnikovs, 1 stun gun, 13 rifles, 27 guns, 347 pistols, 17 revolvers, 2 carbines, 1 Mauser, 6 daggers, 61 magazines and more than 2,700 bullets.

During an operation against drug sellers, the police arrested 847 drug dealers and also recovered drugs including, 28kg heroin, 112kg hashish, 11kg opium, 30 intoxicating pills, 65 injections and 6877 bottles f liquor.

Moreover, 628 gamblers were arrested and seized Rs0.8 million of betting money from them.
