Green sweep: Pakistan win third test by 71 runs

DUBAI: Saeed Ajmal and Umar Gul were the chief destroyers as Pakistan won the third and final test by 71 runs on the fourth day on Monday, recording their first clean sweep in a series against England.

Spinner Ajmal, the scourge of England’s batsmen throughout the series, picked up four for 67 and paceman Gul grabbed four for 61 as the world’s top-ranked test team were bowled out for 252 in front of a sparse crowd in Dubai.

Ajmal won the man of the series award for taking 24 wickets. Azhar Ali was named man of the match for his 157 in Pakistan’s second innings.

The series yielded 43 lbw decisions, a record for a three-match contest.

A diving catch by Younus Khan at slip off Ajmal immediately after lunch trigged yet another England collapse as it removed Alastair Cook one short of his half century.

The one upside for 27-year-old opener Cook was that he became the second youngest player to reach 6,000 test runs – only India’s master batsman Sachin Tendulkar has achieved that feat at a younger age.

Ajmal ripped through Kevin Pietersen’s bat and pad to bowl him for 18 before Ian Bell followed for 10, lobbing an attempted square cut off Gul straight to cover point.

Eoin Morgan (31) also fell when he gave Gul the charge only to be caught behind the wicket.

Wicketkeeper Matt Prior tried to keep up England’s hopes with an unbeaten 49 but eventually he ran out of partners.

Captain Andrew Strauss (26) and Jonathan Trott (18) were dismissed before lunch.

Strauss was trapped leg before by spinner Abdur Rehman and failed to get the decision overturned by the video umpire.

    @Imran:
realistically England can win…what i saw today was that wicket is getting lower but also slower…turn is slow and easier to pick…it is more of Pakistan’s inability against left arm spin than anything else which contributed to a collapse and lose 7 for 33…..
anyway if Pak has to win than they will have to bowl a little faster for turn to get quicker…if we bowl as slow as we did today then we might see England win….wicket is easy and apart from a few staying low for left handers,….otherwise it is behaving better…so Pakistan need to be serious and non complacent…..290+ in two days is possible if wicket does not get any worse..

in my opinion…it is 60-40 in favour of Pakistan at the moment….but if they negotiate the firat session tomorrow then problems fro Pakistan will start……-

Pak will win it for sure. How ever they have to caught setters. Its 80-20 to Pakistan. Just the matter of a wicket and England will crumble again. Their middle order is totally out of form and cant play spin well so its quite difficult for them to bat next 3 sessions. Their best chance is Crook and Trott scoring big else they will fall like the way they have being.

In my opionion England is still in the match and there is a bright chance to win the third and final test. However we can only pray for the success of our Pakistani team instead of saying harsh and proudy words. Who baat kabhi na karain jo Allah ko Borah lagay. Hum apni team kay liyah doah karsaktay hain.

guys you need to understand one thing that despite England having 2 days to bat for chasing down 324, they have to take short singles or else if they keep blocking balls like misbah did for his 31 runs, i’m sure they’ll collapse bearing in mind their current form. persistance is the key here for both teams. Pakistan has enough paint in bag to whitewash Englishmen. Good luck Team Pakistan!!!!

may be it was typo…..anyway thrilling end to an absorbing series….still anybody’s game…though Pak hold advantage with England 181-6….after tea…only 143 remaining….
its 60-40 in pak favour but as soon as target goes below 100…it will become 50-50…judging by the strength of English tail which usually wags….so no time for complacence….

That will probably make our batting line much much powerful. We can atleast draw every match OVERSEAS atleast if we are unable to taste the victory.Recommend
