QUETTA: The entire house rose in protest and disrupted the normal proceedings of the Balochistan Assembly to condemn the brutal murder of the wife and daughter of a sitting MPA in Karachi on January 31.  At the same time, a shutterdown strike was observed in major parts of Balochistan for the second consecutive day.

The daughter and wife of Mir Bakhtyar Domki, a sitting legislator, were shot dead in Karachi on January 31. The deceased were also related to Baloch Republican Party (BRP) chief Brahmdug Bugti.

BNP-Awami, Jamiat Ulema Islam (JUI-F) and independent MPAs demanded that the chief minister, who is currently in Islamabad, should immediately return to Quetta along with Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani to find the culprits involved in the targeted killings. They forcefully rejected the official contention that it was a result of tribal feud or personal enmity.

Balochistan National Party-Awami (BNP-A) General Secretary Asad Baloch and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid’s (PML-Q) Nasreen Khethran staged a walkout during the proceedings of the assembly to protest the killings.

The strike in Balochistan was called by BRP and backed by Balochistan National Party (BNP), National Party (NP) and other nationalist parties. Business and trade activities were halted as all shops, trading centres, commercial establishments and educational institutions were closed.

The Balochistan National Party (BNP) staged a demonstration in Naushki, while members of the Domki tribe held a rally in Dera Murad Jamali demanding justice.

Legilators seem impotent when in come to the public welfare and public issues

For many years, they watched silently the unfolding of a massacre in balochistan of the hazaras, the punjabies and other minorities. Did they really think that the war wouldn't reach their own door-steps?

My advice would be, stop demanding action and TAKE action. Resign en-mass; bring the government down and trigger new elections if you are that concerned.
