Published: February 2, 2012

SUKKUR: Employees of the Sindh Irrigation and Drainage Authority staged a protest outside the irrigation engineer’s office in Mirpur Mathelo on Wednesday. The protesters were chanting slogans against the authorities and were carrying placards. They were led by Mukhtiar Ahmed and Ali Hassan Chandio who claimed that more than 100 employees were recruited a few months ago which meant that old employees would be sacked. The protesters said that they would continue to protest till the authorities gave them job security. According to SIDA’s director Anwar Sial, some union leaders were trying to create problems by spreading rumours.
