Progressive measures: AJK police to be made a vibrant force

In view of the increased population in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), an integrated plan has been chalked out to revamp the police force in line with international standards and the recommendations have been forwarded to the AJK government for approval.


AJK Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Tariq Khokhar stated this at the inaugural ceremony of 15 Madadgar Swift Police Assistance Centre set up at the SSP office on Sunday. The centre was inaugurated by AJK Prime Minister Chaudhry Abdul Majeed.

The IGP said traffic police squads will be available round the clock on all highways and roads connecting all ten districts of AJK. “Efforts are under way to improve the working conditions of the police to improve their performance. He said eight fully-equipped police posts have been set up in residential areas in Mirpur city to provide quick assistance to citizens in case of emergency.

Speaking on this occasion, the AJK prime minister said a police training centre will be established in Mirpur on the pattern of the Sihala Police Training Centre. He added that over 2000 police officials will be recruited across AJK in phases to overcome shortage of manpower.

Both retired and serving police officials and a large number of people from all segments of civil society attended the ceremony.
