LAHORE:

The Lahore High Court on Monday directed the Shadman SHO to proceed “in accordance with the law” on a petition seeking registration of cases against the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) medical superintendent and the Health Secretary for allegedly being involved in the purchase of substandard medicines that have killed more than 80 patients.

Additional District & Sessions Judge Arif Hameed Shaikh also directed the petitioner to approach the SHO for registration of a case. The SHO, during a previous hearing, had told the judge that the petitioner had not visited the police station or met with him. He said that a case will be registered against the two suspects if an inquiry, conducted by a commission set up under The Punjab Health Care Commission Act, found them guilty.

Petitioner Ahmed Raza had said in his petition that he had approached the Shadman SHO on January 21 to register an FIR against the suspects but the SHO had turned his request down.
