HYDERABAD:

In order to punish Ali Hussain Rind for eloping with Shabana three months ago, a jirga decided that his daughter and niece would be handed over to Shabana’s family as compensation.

The jirga was organised by the Rinds and was led by Akbar Ali Rind on Saturday.

It was also decided that Ali Hussain would have to pay Rs200,000 as a fine. The girls were identified as 17-year-old Fehmida and and 12-year-old Zareena. They were handed over to Shabana’s brothers.

When Ali Hussain and Shabana got married and returned to the village the families refused to accept them.

The police deny that the incident took place.

According to SSP Muhammad Ali Baloch, he had been to the village and had met the family. He said that Fehminda and Zareena were not underage.

He added that he would verify their age by double checking with their birth certificates and school records.
