Freedom Of Media: Marri recognises sacrifices of journalists

Says we have to look for a better future for the journalist community whose sacrifices are well known.

KARACHI: We have to look for a better future for the journalist community whose sacrifices are well known, said Sindh Information Minister Shazia Marri. During her address at an interactive session at the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CNPE) on Saturday, she promised that efforts for legislation to defend the rights of bona fide journalists would be undertaken. She said that the media was a mirror of society, and that numerous challenges were being faced by journalists. The minister believed that the media plays a very sensitive role in society. She assured that she would do whatever she can for their issues, including insurance and safety.

The CNPE president, Khushnood Ali Khan, secretary general, Aamer Mehmood, and journalists, Amin Yousaf, Hasan Abbas, Tahir Najmi, Dr Jabbar Khattak, GN Mughal, among others addressed the session and highlighted the issues faced by journalists.
