Sales tax: Centre, Punjab asked to reply by Feb 1

Petitioner says that the federal government cannot tax services and restaurants fall under the purview of services.

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Friday issued notices to the federal and Punjab governments on a petition challenging levy of sales tax on restaurants by the federal government. Justice Ijazul Ahsan sought their replies by February 1. Petitioner Muhammad Ishaq says that the federal government cannot tax services and restaurants fall under the purview of services.
