RAWALPINDI:

Japanese culture and its past and present were on full display at the Rawalpindi Arts Council (RAC) on Tuesday.

The Japanese calendars exhibition was held by the RAC in collaboration with the Japanese embassy to promote diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The 129 calendars on display portray traditional Japanese art, its cultural development, historical sites and the country’s signature automobiles.

Japan’s Ambassador Hiroshi Oe inaugurated and served as the chief guest at the exhibition. “These calendars reflect the images of both traditional and contemporary Japan,” he said adding that the exhibition was among the embassy’s most popular events.

“Despite the devastating earthquake in Japan last year, the calendars on display showcase the best of Japan’s social and cultural development,” he stated.

After the exhibition, all calendars will be distributed among the visitors through a lottery system; a box was already placed where a number of visitors tried their luck.

The calendars on display were appreciated by the visitors. Muhammad Waqas expressed his desire to own all the pieces exhibited, with particular reference to the cars.

Another visitor, Faiza Bukhari, added, “It’s really a great exhibition, which encompasses all of Japan -- its historical sites and beautiful scenery. I’ve never seen an exhibition of this kind before.”

The exhibition will remain open till January 31.
