PESHAWAR: Sakina*, an alleged rape victim from Karak, gave birth to a baby girl at a local hospital in Peshawar on Friday. Authorities say this will pave the way for conducting a DNA test of the baby and help bring the culprits behind bars.
Earlier when Sakina* was pregnant, the inquiry committee formed to investigate the rape case had requested the formation of a medical board and recommended DNA tests.
Investigation Officer SSP Atiqullah Wazir told The Express Tribune that DNA tests of the baby and all the accused persons will be conducted soon, which would help them put Sakina's* culprits behind bars. He added that they were waiting for instructions from the health department.
"It is upon the instructions of DG health where to conduct the DNA tests. As soon as we conduct the DNA tests of both the parties, we would be able to investigate the case and bring the culprits behind bars", the SSP said.
All expenses of the test will be borne by the authorities.
Sakina* was rushed to the hospital early in the morning today, where she gave birth to a normal baby. However, she hasn't been discharged yet.

It is not only a sad case, it is a matter of justice - that justice will not be done. As a Muslim living and being brought up in the West I find the whole episode revolting. This case has not been picked up even by the religious parties, that leads me to assume that they are complicit in what is happening to our women. However the women need to stand up for their rights and be counted. I can help this unfortunate woman to start a new life if anyone can help me to locate this woman.
At this stage what is the worth of changing the names to protect the identity. Every body knows the fullest details provided by the print and electronic media perhaps because the poor victim was not "my" daughter was not "my" sister. Day and night we curse the Americans we curse the west but they are far far better than we the so called "muslims" as far as the dignity and honour of a women is concerned. From the very beginning the honour and identity of a rape victim is protected very minutely just in the way as our religion Islam asks us to do. Afterwards she is relocated to an undisclosed location so that she may live the rest of her life with peace and tranquility. Let the political dynasties (kings&queens) of Pakistan think about the issues pertaining to a common man instead of reveling in Memogates and NRO's
Shame on us !
Proud of you my dearest and your new baby girl.stand up for your right and show the world.we will support you and stand with you, you are not guilty.
Why do you need DNA testing -- the lady already identified her attackers (who happened to be police officers).
First of all! I am very sad upon this yet another unfair incident that has happened with sakina and I really hope the culprit is stoned to death!! Now for those people commenting about the ruin of the baby's life and the mother? what is wrong with you people? Why are you indirectly assuming that there life will be a ruin? Its because people will talk?? they talk anywayz, if she wasn't raped and had a baby girl with her husband lets say, she will be still looked as disgust as it is a baby 'GIRL' she gave birth to? not a boy? It might not be the best way, but she has been blessed with I am sure a beautiful offspring, she should be able to share her part of happiness of becoming a brave mother! and the daughter should be let to live her life as any other normal baby. It is because of all of us, the daughter and mother wont live in peace, so please close your ears and your mouth and open your brain and hearts to welcome this child to this world! and as for the investigators ! ha! they couldn't find the culprit in 9 months good luck to them now!
^ Agreed with you pinky. Sakina's life is already in ruins.
and what would the DNA test determine? paternity at the most? it certainly would NOT "help bring the culprits behind bars"as the story suggests....Oh NO! poor Sakina would be accused of having extra marital relations or something to that effect...the limited sympathy she might have been able to garner would be replaced by revulsion..then she and her daughter would live their stigmatized lives tragically ever after..
i hope i am wrong..Hell, i want to be wrong..but all of us know that is not the case :(
The baby is here in this world and the culprit is still out there. Sad day for justice :(
The issue here is not just of the rapist imo...its the chain of people who are involved in covering up and protecting the rapist. This includes the police, the local politicians etc...we all know that in Pakistan its who are you that counts and how much money you have.
This is horrific, but the sad thing is in Pakistan, these cases are becoming so common, it begs the question - are we muslims or just by name?
I'm a big fan of Cheif Justice and this judiciary, but i will take this case as a litmus test for them. I pray and hope Judiciary give quick justice to her, I believe this case should be treated by police and administration and not judiciary but they are so pathetic that i don't even have hope from them...
Pathetic.
I wish the rapist be stoned to death as per Islamic hadood lawas,.
So that other take a lesson and never dare to commit such a crime again.
