KARACHI: The chief of Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Karachi chapter, arrested earlier this month, has confessed to killing the son of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain, confirmed Crime Investigation Department (CID) Sindh Police on Wednesday.
SSP CID Fayyaz Khan said that Abdul Qayyum Mehsood confessed to killing Rashid Hussain by firing at him in Nowshera on July 24 last year. The culprit also told the police that he was accompanied by Naqeebullah and Kaleemullah, two of his fellows who were later killed in a drone strike.
The TTP man also said that the killing was properly planned.
Hussain was out on a walk with his friend in the Pabbi area near Nowshera district when gunmen opened fire at them. They both were shifted to a hospital where Hussain succumbed to his injuries.
The SSP said that the TTP leader was arrested on January 5 along with three of his accomplices in a police encounter in Manghopir. Several weapons, suicide jackets and rockets were also recovered from their possession.
CID AIG Shabbir Shiekh had said that the suspects were involved in a dozen bomb attacks, kidnappings for ransom, murders and robberies in Karachi.

@Adnan: SO, you say that "Drones only manage to kill these terrorists less than half of the time, the other times its civilians who die. The drone operations should be continued but with assistance from Pakistan army and missiles fired at suspected terrorist bases, not on civilians"!
Once again, the Drone's expensive Hellfire missles are used with targeting provided by Army/ISI agents on the ground in the target area! They are not randomly fired at "civilians" as you seem to infer. If the Americans didn't care about civilian casualties, the B-52s would have appeared over FATA long ago!
No worry, terrorist friendly court will absolve any such people
Karachi police is doing a splended job. My solute to them!
@DB:
doubtful logic.
@Adnan:
I would prefer the drone attacks not happen either due to civilian deaths and casualties, though I do recognize many terrorists have been killed very successfully, where we were even pleased when the US finally responded to our request of taking out TTP's Baitullah Mehsud. Of course, there was an ethical dilemma, considering that the mass murderer massacred Pakistanis in markets, rallies, hotels, masjids, etc, but in the drone attack his young (2nd/3rd/4th?) wife and child were killed in the process. Would there be any guarantee if boots on the ground would have avoided such casualties?
However, let us admit this fact, that part of the problem why the drone attacks are employed is simply because of Pak army's lack of cooperation or assistance and reluctance to put even boots on the ground chasing after Haqqani or other Afghan militants, hence not even attempting to protect Pakistani civilians honourably themselves, even though the Turi tribe or other locals have asked for immediate help.
@Hu Jintao:
The article just detailed a TTP leader militant confessing his accomplices, Naqeebullah and Kaleemullah, in an earlier murder on a Pak minister's son were eliminated in a drone strike.
They are not 'some unknown suspected militants'.
@Yuri Kondratyuk: I am waiting for the day when drones strike on real terrorists i.e. TTP and not some unknown suspected militants
Unfortunately, it is quite common to hear about terrorist activities in the northern region, but the growing number of terrorists in other parts of the country sends a chilling warning to the government of Pakistan. The time to act is now, and these terrorists need to be made aware that law and order are in place, and serious repercussions are waiting for those who commit crimes. They will not have it their way, and those who continue to carry forward their evil agenda will be brought to justice and strictly punished. This news should be heard with joy because quite possibly these terrorists could have been responsible for the killings of innocents in the near future. The terrorists on both sides of the border have been on a mission to disrupt the peace throughout the region. Our forces along with innocent civilians are regularly attacked, and it is only fair that no leniency is shown in dealing with these terrorists. We fully support and back Pakistan in its fight against militancy, and hope to work side by side in clearing the region from the wrath of terrorism.
Drones killed Naqeebullah and Kaleemullah of TTP and produced ten more of them. Good job drones indeed!
@ABC: Drones only manage to kill these terrorists less than half of the time, the other times its civilians who die. The drone operations should be continued but with assistance from Pakistan army and missiles fired at suspected terrorist bases, not on civilians.
They will be released either on bail or for lack of evidence as many others earlier from LJ,LT and TTP.
this confession might even not b enough for our "independent judiciary" to hang him.
For God's sake show the terrorists faces. Why do you hide their faces? They are killers they should be shown no soft corner. Call them terrorists and not extremists and militants. Hang them at the nearest lamp post.
I am waiting for @Hu Jintao's comments about evil drones.
