PESHAWAR: A commander of the Akakhel Qaumi Lashkar, aligned with Peace militia, was shot dead by militants in the Akakhel area of Bara, a subdivison of Khyber Agency.

According to sources in the peace committee, Commander Haji Kalim of the Akakhel Tribe was shot dead by militants late on Tuesday evening in the Meergatkhel area of Bara. “His body has been picked up from the area with bullet wounds,” said a member of the committee. “Not much can be said about the attacker, as there was hardly any visibility in the area,” said another member of the committee.

The areas in and around Bara have been under curfew for almost two years now, with life at stand still the area has seen many attacks by militants against the security forces and the peace lashkar in the area.

The area has been a clash point for militants of the Mangal Bagh led Lashkar-e-Islam and the Akakhel tribe. There have been several deaths reported from both sides in the past.

The death of Haji Kalim comes hours after a poweful blast in Jamrud, a sub division of Khyber Agency, which killed more than 30 people and injured scores others.
