BAHAWALPUR:

A man was shot and killed by two unidentified men in front of his house in Bahawalpur on Monday night.

Irfan, 24, a resident of Dera Izzat, had been receiving death threats from his father-in-law, Dilshad, after he married Zarrina* without her family’s consent, his brother Riaz told The Express Tribune.

Riaz said his brother had married Zarrina* three months ago in a court.

He said his in-laws had wanted Zarrina to marry a cousin.

“A few days ago he told me that he was receiving threats,” he said.

He said Irfan was walking in front of his house after dinner on Monday night when he was shot.

Dilshad rejected the allegations.

He said while he had not favoured the match he would not want to ruin his daughter’s life.

He said nobody from his family had even proposed that she seek a divorce from Irfan.

SHO Abid Warraich said an FIR had been registered against two unidentified men on a complaint filed by Irfan’s brother.

About charging Dilshad with murder, he said he would add his name if evidence gathered during the investigation pointed towards him.
