LAHORE: A case has been registered against the president of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) Irfan Qaisar Sheikh and other representatives of traders on Monday on charges of creating public nuisance after they blocked a road.
An FIR was lodged at the Race Course police station under section of 290, 291 and 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code, (Continued Public nuisance and disobedience). The case was registered on the application of Habib Khan, a sub inspector in Race Course police station. Habib Khan stated that Irfan Qaisar Sheikh, Dr Abdul Basit, Mehar Kashif and around 35 of their accomplices illegally blocked the road. They even violated the court order that banned protests on the Mall Road.
Earlier, a spokesman for the LCCI, Shahid Khalil while talking to The Express Tribune said that they had heard about the registration of the case but police did not try to arrest them. Saying they were calm about the case registration. “If police tries to victimise us, we will take a decision. We informed the police well in advance about our protest.” The protest started at the LCCI Office and ended outside the Governor House in a peaceful way.
“What we have done wrong that merited the registration of a case?” asked Khalil.
The presidents and other office bearers of all Punjab Chambers of Commerce and Industries collectively protested with members of the LCCI on Monday against the closure of gas supply to all industries.
