Bara operation continues: TTP commander killed

Kamran was involv­ed in attack­s on securi­ty forces, includ­ing a suicid­e attack in Shabqa­dar that killed over 90.

PESHAWAR: Security forces claimed to have killed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan commander Qari Kamran was killed in Khyber Agency on Sunday.

According to official sources, security forces launched an operation on an intelligence tip-off in Alamgir Killay in the Karmina area in Landi Kotal tehsil.

Security sources said that Kamran was involved in various attacks on security forces, particularly a suicide attack in Shabqadar in May 2011 in which more than 90 cadets were killed. He was also involved in the June twin bombing in Nowshera that killed over 20 people and a suicide attack in Risalpur cantonment in August that killed a police assistant sub-inspector.

Sources said that 12 TTP militants were killed in the operation, while one soldier died and two sustained injuries.

Earlier, media persons were also briefed about a huge cache of arms and explosives including anti-aircraft and anti-tank guns being recovered in a search operation in the Bazgarh area.

“All these arms and ammunitions have been smuggled from across the border while a majority of these are Russian manufactured,” an official said.
