Governance: Govt criticised for lavish expenditures

Aziz condemned the federal governments for keeping a cabinet of 96 ministers and advisors.

LAHORE: The government has failed in cutting down on its own expenditure and is instead burdening the people by increasing electricity tariffs and gas and petrol prices every few months, Jeevay Pakistan Jeevay Muqami Hakoomat (JPJM) chairman Daniyal Aziz said on Thursday. In a statement issued to the media, Aziz condemned the federal governments for keeping a cabinet of 96 ministers and advisors. He said while Pakistan was a poor country, its federal government and spent Rs90.7 billion on its cabinet over four years. In comparison, he said China, a country of 1.33 billion people, was being run by 14 ministers; India by 32, United States by 14 and United Kingdom by 12. He said similarly provincial cabinets included ministers in excess of the number required for administration. Aziz said so far 2,070 air tickets had so far been issued to the federal ministers and advisors.
