KARACHI: The eighth chapter of the Organisation of Pakistani Entrepreneurs of North America (OPEN) was launched here on Tuesday.

Speaking at a press conference, OPEN Global Chairman Imran Sayeed said the Karachi chapter was the first non-US chapter of the organisation, adding they would hold conferences, seminars and networking events regularly to promote entrepreneurship and create learning opportunities among its members.

OPEN is a non-profit organisation and has over 3,000 entrepreneurs as its members in Boston, New York, Silicon Valley, Washington DC, Houston, Chicago and Atlanta.

Traditionally, each OPEN chapter has had its own area of focus. For example, the New York chapter focuses on media and finance, the Houston chapter is focused on energy and the Silicon Valley chapter is devoted to exploring and nurturing talent in the IT sector.

“The Karachi chapter, however, will work with businesspeople in all sectors where entrepreneurship is taking place,” OPEN Karachi President Dr Zakiuddin Ahmed said while talking to The Express Tribune.

He said he expected about 200-250 entrepreneurs to become members of the Karachi chapter next year.

“We want to develop an entrepreneurial ecosystem in Pakistan,” Ahmed said.
