KARACHI:

Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has announced that compressed natural gas (CNG) stations in Sindh will remain closed for 24 hours from 9am on Friday to 9am on Saturday.

A decision to this effect was taken in a meeting between SSGC officials and representatives of CNG associations at SSGC head office here on Thursday.

Chairing the meeting, SSGC Deputy Managing Director (Operations) Syed Hassan Nawab said since the line pack (the actual amount of gas in the distribution system) has fallen from 950 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) to a historical low of 750 mmcfd, it is necessary to shut down CNG stations to make enough gas available for domestic consumption. In the wake of extremely low pressure that has badly affected overall gas supply, SSGC would stop supply to CNG stations in Karachi and other cities of Sindh for 24 hours, it said.

SSGC reiterated that it realises that the consumers are faced with an acute situation and the company is taking all actions to ensure uninterrupted gas supply.
