LAHORE: A 13-year-old student from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa was the runner-up for the ‘International Children’s Peace Prize’ that was awarded by the Dutch organisation KidsRights.
Malala Yousafzai raised her voice against the injustice that girls suffered during militancy in Swat. She was one of only five children and the only Pakistani nominated from a pool of 98 contestants from 42 different countries.
The award is presented annually to a child whose remarkable acts and thoughts have made a difference in countering problems which affect children globally. KidsRights said that Malala was nominated for this prestigious award because ‘her writing focused on the right to education for girls which was banned by the Taliban in the Swat Valley.
