Lots of drama, little progress in Sapna case

SHO to probe murder charge, claim that petitioner isn’t the father.

LAHORE: Additional District and Sessions Judge Chaudhry Nazeer Ahmed has again directed the Race Course station house officer (SHO) to record the testimony of the petitioner and register a case against former chief minister Dost Muhammad Khosa, if one is made out, for the murder of Sapna Khan, Khosa’s ex-wife.

The SHO had been summoned for Monday to answer a contempt plea moved by Missal Khan stating that the police officer was ignoring the court’s order to record the petitioner’s testimony and register a murder case against the former chief minister.

The petitioner has asked the court to register a case against Khosa for the murder of his daughter Sapna, who has been missing since June.

The SHO testified on Monday that police officials had visited Missal Khan’s house but he wasn’t there. He said that they had left him a message asking him to visit the police station, but he had ignored the message. The judge told the officer to make sure he records the petitioner’s statement and to report to the court on Wednesday.

The judge also told the SHO to investigate the defence attorney’s claim that the petitioner, Missal Khan, is not Sapna’s father. Advocate M Zubair Khalid Chaudhry put forth Muhammad Shahid, Dost Khosa’s driver, as a “witness” to this.

Shahid and Sapna’s brother got into an angry exchange in full view of the media outside the courtroom. The former claimed that Sapna had once told him that Missal was not her father but her uncle. The latter condemned Khosa and his “henchmen” as murderers who had killed his sister.

Advocate Azhar Siddique, Missal Khan’s counsel, told The Express Tribune that this was the first time that the disputed parentage of Missal Khan had been brought up in court and he believed that it was a delaying tactic by the defence. “Where has this driver Shahid been for the last six months while Sapna has been missing? They are just trying to delay the case,” he said.
