Dhanush much more than 'Kolaveri' song: Abhishek

Published: December 8, 2011

Unfortunately people only seem to know Dhushan because of 'Kolavari Di, says Abhishek. PHOTO: PUBLICITY

Hindi film actor Abhishek Bachchan feels that it is unfair that people associate Tamil star Dhanush, who has an impressive body of work, just with the “Kolaveri di” song.

“He is a very dear friend of mine, Dhanush. Very famous and very prominent actor from Chennai. Off late, unfortunately they only seem to know him because of ‘Kolavari Di’ but, he has done great work down there. He is a wonderful actor,” said the 35-year-old actor.

“Kolaveri Di” has received over 17 million hits on Youtube till now and Abhishek terms it as one of the greatest hits of the year.

“I think it’s outstanding and I think it’s wonderful because it has been made by two very dear friends of mine, Dhanush and his wife Aishwarya. I think it’s a fantastic song. He is a very talented guy and Anirudh, the music director has done a great job. I wish them all the best. It’s one of the greatest songs of the year,” said Abhishek who is awaiting his next release “Players” by director duo Abbas-Mustan.

“Players”, which is releasing Jan 6, also stars Bobby Deol, Bipasha Basu, Neil Nitin Mukesh and Sonam Kapoor.

Abhishek is also working on Rohit Shetty directed “Bol Bachchan” and “Dhoom 3″.

@Green eyed Pakistani: ohhh..but still your music [its not even a music..worst than the bandbaaja] industry sucks to its core…They need our support to get some fame.Thats how your few top singers gained publicity.
Aatif aslam,Fateh ali khan are the few examples…
btw your coke studio was one of the most pathetic chaos I have ever come across.

@Green eyed Pakistani: “one coke studio song = All Indian Music industry”
This shows how little you know about Indian music industry.

Indian music industry is much broader than Bollywood.

There are film indistries in Maharashtra, Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka also.

Besides film music, there is classical music – both Hindustani and Carnatic. Bade Ghulam Ali who had gone to Pakistan initially after partition, returned to India because of how classical music people were treated. Even within classical music there is vocals and instrumentals also.

Apart from classical music there is folk music of different parts of the country (Gujarati Garba, Punjabi Bhangra, Marathi Lavani, Ravindra Sangeet from Bengal etc.)

Then there is ghazals, thumri, tappa and other forms of light music – not just in Hindi but in different languages of the country.

Then there is devotional music, bhajans, naats, hymns etc.

Then there is pop music – mainly in English.

Also even if we restrict the comparison to only Bollywood music, your statement cannot be unchallenged. You are ofcourse entitled to your opinions and it reflects your tastes in music but it cannot be stated to be a universally true statement. There have been hundreds of haunting melodies and beautiful lyrics that in my opinion can tower over any Coke studio song in comparable genre.

does it make sense this nonsense theory !!!by man.IN
”’lets call it a revolution.Im sure its 1lac tyms better thn any pakistani music be it traditional pakistani or modern pakistani singer’s.”’

it was reactionary to this response , its not That I mean it ,,just to make man.IN realize come out of this disrepect

we must respect music on both sides , I know all of that ayesha you mentioned ..
We had legends like , Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan , Mehdi Hassan ,Malika Taranum , Salamat Ali , Sufi and Qawalli we have , in Pop music we are much ahead strings ,jal, roxen ,fusion ,

singer like Shafqat Amanat , Rahat Fateh Ali Khan , Noorie ,

I deeply respect legend late Jagjeet , lata jee, Sonu nigam , A R rehman jee…

Music have no boundaries no religion , we must appreciate where ever it is it must be acknowledged ..

Coming to Coke studio only Idiot and Bigot with racist mind set will not recognize the Music they are giving it has become a music Genre in itself .

I am an Indian Punjabi – this music is sugar for the ears…..mishri in the ears. Rich language and rich music by the whole team. The team rocks!!!!! Thanks for giving us a very different music in Punjabi than the routine. You guys are pure magic. I think myself lucky to be born to hear this in my life. Plz do something for festival or celebration this season. Bhangra type or something. Want to hear your version. Thank you CS and Rohail.
