LAHORE:

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan is expected to hold a press conference in Islamabad on December 4, in which he will disclose details of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)’s eponymous chief’s assets, sources told The Express Tribune.

Khan will present documents detailing Nawaz Sharif’s assets and the sources of his family’s income and is expected to address allegations by PML-N MNA Hanif Abbasi, sources added.

Abbasi had alleged that Khan, in 1987, sent an application to then-Punjab chief minister Nawaz Sharif for the allotment of a residential plot on the basis that he did not own any property in Lahore.

The allegations go further, stating that Khan had submitted an affidavit declaring that neither he, nor any of his dependents, had been allotted a residential plot in Punjab.

Upon this request, it is alleged that Khan was allotted plot No 11, measuring one kanal, in Block D of Faisal Town Scheme, by the former chief minister, on grounds that Khan was a national hero, and on the condition that he will not sell it. Abbasi said he had evidence which he is willing to distribute to the media and that Khan is welcome to counter them and challenge the facts in court.

PTI denies allegations

PTI’s spokesperson said the allegations against Khan showed that the PML-N was feeling threatened after the PTI ‘s October 30 rally.

He said that PML-N’s strategy has been to level false charges in order to get traction in the media.

The spokesperson categorically denied allegations levelled by the PML-N, but admitted that Khan did, in fact, receive a plot of land as a gift  for winning the cricket world cup, but which he had sold to purchase land for the construction of the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital.

He said that Abbasi’s allegation that Khan’s relatives were receiving Rs200,000 per month, as salary from the board of governors, is baseless and that PTI is considering legal action.

Sources from PTI told The Express Tribune that aside from Sharif’s assets, the core committee of the party would also discuss the entry of new members to the party and their future roles.
