280 packets of drugs seized in Peshawar

The drugs were hidden inside the lapis lazuli gem stones.

PESHAWAR: Custom officials on Thursday seized 280 packets of heroin from a container, on a dry port in Peshawar, bound for the city of Jaipur in India.

Security officials had received information of drugs being smuggled, but only after searching for hours, it was discovered that the drugs were hidden inside gem stones, lapis lazuli, that were to cross the border.

Officials are trying to ascertain the total weight and price of the heroin packets, while two people were arrested including the clearance officer and the importer.

Further investigations are underway.

Two days earlier, on Tuesday, 19kg of heroin that was bound for the UK was confiscated in Islamabad.
