A young woman was murdered by her brother and cousin here on Tuesday for marrying a man of her own choice.
Mariam Bibi was shot in the head by her brother, Muhammad Amir, at their parents’ house in Dhoke Lakhan, a locality near the Dhamial Army Aviation Base.
“My daughter was shot in the head by my son with help of Muhammad Zaffar, a nephew from my husband’s side,” Mariam’s mother told the Saddar Bairuni police.
Mariam, 24, married her cousin, Naheed Akhtar, a few weeks ago. Her parents were not happy with the course of events as Naheed was already a married father of four. Family elders got involved soon after the marriage and settled the dispute, with both sides deciding to let her be seen off from her parents’ house.
Mariam’s husband went into hiding soon after the murder as he feared for his life. Sadaar Bairuni Police Station House Officer Sohail Zaffar informed that they had arrested Amir and were looking for Zaffar.
