LONDON: The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) needs to maintain the sport’s popularity in Western Europe, said meeting organisers ahead of the decision to choose London or Doha as 2017 world championship hosts. The sport’s governing body is set to announce its decision after a vote tomorrow. “The championship will have been quite a bit outside of Western Europe by then. It would be good if we could have it here and show that level of athletics to the European public,” said meeting director Patrick Magyar.
