Drone Attacks: Petition filed in Supreme Court

Published: November 1, 2011

LAHORE:

A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court’s Lahore registry seeking a direction to the federal government to ensure the safety of every Pakistani against drone attacks.

The Watan Party filed the petition through its Punjab chapter president, Hashmi Shaukat Khan, saying that drone attacks were a violation of Article 3 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, 1948 and the United Nations Charter. He said that the drone attacks were also illegal since they had not been approved by the United States Congress. The petitioner, through his counsel, submitted that the attacks violated Pakistan’s sovereignty. The petitioner also demanded that the government should immediately suspend all NATO supply routes and Afghan transit trade through Pakistan in case the US does not stop drone attacks.

The drones are just one of the tools used to committ Genocide – a grave crime on humanity and now is the time to stand up and demand justice . . . this crime has gone far too long under some excuse or another. The perpetrators and the enablers of genocide are criminals in this evil practice and it needs to be stopped immediately or even God will not excuse the quiet spectators and enablers!!!
