LAHORE: In order to enhance meat and milk production, the Punjab government will spend Rs2.5 billion in the livestock sector during the current fiscal year 2011-12. Besides, projects to be undertaken in this vital sector of economy would create job opportunities for scores of youth in rural areas, official sources said on Sunday. The government, they said, for the first time in the history of Punjab had exported meat to Malaysia. Earlier, India had complete monopoly of the meat market. They said a modern meat processing plant was being set up with the cooperation of Iran. It would enable the province to export meat, they added.
