LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Friday expressed “serious displeasure” at Pakistan Railways’ failure to comply with directions to find a desk job for an employee who lost a leg in an accident on duty. Mazhar Hussain in his contempt of court petition stated that the court’s order had not been complied with several months after it was issued. A Railways divisional engineer told the court on Friday that the order was “in process”. The judge directed the divisional engineer to implement the order and present a compliance report on October 31.

Something appears to be seriously wrong with the way people in power feel about their subordinates. I am unable, right at this point, understand what this shortcoming could be, but it seems to me tthat the fault lies in the way people aquire their moral beliefs. I use the word moral to distinguish it from ethical beliefs. I beleive that moral beliefs are aquired from observing how parents react to life situations and ethics have to be taught. Close observation tells me that people behave the way this Divisional Engineer has because that is the way they have been programmed by society during his lifetime. The people repremanding him were nurtured when our society was different and can feel the employee's pain. In a word the High Court Judge displays empathy, the DE does not.
