Plantation Drive: Fighting global warming, one tree at a time

Indonesian ambassador initiated a Trembesi tree plantation drive at Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) in Islamabad.

As part of the Indonesian government’s efforts to fight global warming, the Indonesian ambassador on Wednesday initiated a Trembesi tree plantation drive at Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) in Islamabad.


The ambassador said that Trembesi is the symbol of tree plantation campaign in Indonesia and has been chosen because due to its ability to absorb large amounts of carbon dioxide, one of the greenhouse gases responsible for global warming. During its lifetime, the Trembesi tree absorbs up to 28 tons of carbon dioxide per year, he said. The ambassador added that Indonesian government is collaborating with number of institutions in Islamabad and other cities of Pakistan for the plantation campaign.

Later, the ambassador and his wife planted a sapling of Trembesi tree at the university’s botanical garden.
