KARACHI: After days of speculation and uncertainty, Chaudhray Zaka Ashraf is expected to assume his duty as the new Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman today.

According to details, Ashraf will take charge of his office at the PCB headquarters in Lahore, 10 days after his appointment was finalised by the Presidency. The new chairman succeeds Ijaz Butt, whose tenure ended on October 8.

Meanwhile, officials close to the new chairman have hinted at major changes in the board’s setup. “Changes are likely to happen,” an official told The Express Tribune, refusing to give further details. However, recent reports have suggested former captain Zaheer Abbas taking over as the new PCB chief operating officer.

A PCB official also confirmed Ashraf joining office today. “We’ve also heard that the new chairman is joining [on Monday]” said a PCB official.

Among the issues will be to decide on the fate of Shahid Afridi as the squad is announced for the limited-overs leg of the UAE series.
