Punjab Assembly: Governor ‘may ask’ chief minister to face confidence vote

Khosa said he did not even consider Sharif a legitimate member of the Punjab Assembly.

LAHORE:

Governor Sardar Latif Khosa said on Saturday that he was thinking about asking Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to seek a vote of confidence as he did not think he had a majority in the house.

At the same time, Khosa said he did not even consider Sharif a legitimate member of the Punjab Assembly since he had given up his assembly seats. A case concerning the chief minister’s status as an MPA is currently pending in the Supreme Court, he said.

Khosa’s statements, made to reporters at Lahore Gymkhana, are being interpreted as the PPP’s response to the suggestion that the chief minister dissolve the Punjab Assembly in order to force the federal government to delay the Senate elections.

He said Sharif had mismanaged security, economic and health issues in the province.

Responding to Khosa’s statements, Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said that the government would happily face a confidence vote in the PA.
