HEC is expected to complete its investigation today.
Two PML-N parliamentarians, Shafique Gujjar and Tariq M Bajwa’s degrees were declared fake on Tuesday by the Higher Education Commission (HEC).
Earlier, the Punjab University confirmed 217 degrees of parliamentarians as authentic, while a total of six degrees were declared fake.
According to sources, the university could not verify the remaining degrees for lack of incomplete credentials submitted by the parliamentarians.
The Higher Education Commission also announced that academic degrees of 29 parliamentarians have been found fake till yet.
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, HEC Advisor Mehmood Raza said 1,065 degrees were received by the HEC for verification, out of which 455 degrees have been found genuine while 29 are bogus.
The verification of the rest of the degrees is underway. Raza also said HEC will present its final report to the National Assembly’s Standing Committeee on Education on July 16, 2010.

Corruption is something that can bring down a nation like it has done to ours. Unless the educated lot with a secular mind will not come forward, we will have ugly ignorant legislators like them giving free hand to the terrorists. Go media good job!Recommend

If we ever needed more proof that Pakistan desperately needs more universities, this is it. All of these honest God fearing Parliamentarians having to fake their degrees because of the lack of educational infrastructure. I bet they’ll fix that in the next budget….Recommend
That is why UAE government ask every Pakistani to bring the degree after verification from HEC & UAE Embassy in Pakistan.

its not that difficult to get one for real. I mean a passing grade of something like 33-40% isnt that hard. At least ban these guys from running for public office again if thay cant be imprisoned. I mean if you lie to the entire country you dont deserve to be elected.Recommend
@Syed A Mateen,
Thank you for giving this issue a provincial perspective.Recommend
Clause 62 (c) Qualifications for Member of Majilis-e-Shoora (Parliament)in the Constitution of Pakistan reads as under:
“He is sagacious, righteous and non-profigate and HONEST and AMEEN.
Thus all those who had submitted fake degrees become disqualified and to contest election for life.
In fact the number of fake degree holders is so large that 18th amendment to the constitution becomes null and avoid. Besides, there is justification for holding fresh elections.
The number of Members of National and Provincia assemblies has been increased allarmingly. Every one wants to become Minister, Minister of State, parliamentry Secretary or holding status of a Minister as Farzana Raja.
I was in the USA and came to know that their are only 15 Ministers (Secretaries of State and 6 other post with the Status of Minister (Secretaries of State). I counted the number in Pakistan the same is above 120.
About a year and half, I was in a gathering, one of thr former Director General of Postal Services, indicated that Minister called him and enquired what is the monery order fee and other postal Charges, he instructed increase the Money Order fee from Rs. 25 to 50 and similarly other carges. He further asked ” How much will be the increase in the income. It was calculated and worked out to around Rs. 100 million. He told the DG manupulated and give me 50 million and rest to Government. When he declined he was made OSD and some one new came who could manipulate and oblige the Minister.
There is mis-management every where. When I come after walk at 6.00 a.m I founf all the street lights on. I go to sleep and come out at 8.00 a.m, to pick the Newspapers, the lights are still on. My chowkidar has intimated that street remain on till around 8.00 a.m

Dear All:
This has been going on forever. If the degrees of the past politicians and destr0yers of countries are investigated, the outcome would be even disastrous. People with bar-at-law would become the most common offenders. Many well known politicians have nothing to do with the education that is why they have put the country in the ground. I am not sure if the top brass has yet been investigated.Recommend
Ultimately, fake degrees are not THAT important. Now, what would really be good is if they verify tax returns. Not just of politicians, but also generals, judges and civil servants. Now that would really be explosive.Recommend
Fake degrees are not a issue that should be supported, they could not be defended by anyone but politicians bearing fake degrees should not be met with such a hue and cry as a matter of fact this is a societal issue as politicians themselves are part of the society by an large so such problems exist in our very society and all the occupations so the nation should try to show a large heart and fake degrees should be associated with fake people not fake politians or fake democracy…..pRecommend
of course. still many degrees have to be added which forceably have been stopped through pressurizing HECC chairman. very unfortunateRecommend
This is just a start. Eventually, all politicians must declare their assets and submit tax returns for the last 5 years. That should help filter out some more junk. Finally, the ECP should ensure that no politician has citizenship of any other country, as specified in the constitution of Pakistan. That should filter out whats left.
