Video of the day: The media's (mis)use of power

Is the media industry acting responsibly enough, selflessly enough?

Nabil Ansari October 08, 2011

Provoking hate and divisions in society has been going on for decades in our underprivileged country. Politicians and religious leaders both guide the nation towards jealousy and hatred amongst fellow citizens of different cultures – traditions – languages, for their own personal gains.

The media industry has to understand it’s responsibility of educating the masses and creating awareness of civic sense.

This YouTube video talks about one such animosity existing between the Pathan-Muhajir communities. The video portrays how a common man is confused and innocent with no direction and future to look to; the poor are abused by the affluent for their own amusement.

It’s true that our media industry enjoys the kind of freedom which many countries around the world envy, but is the industry acting responsibly enough, selflessly enough? That’s what the directors of this video explore with fair success.

Video rating: Thumbs up!

It's certainly sad but true. Hope one day our nation will have enough education and civic sense so we will be able to judge our own actions and have some kind of self accountability.
