Names of brides on wedding cards

Published: October 5, 2011

ISLAMABAD: This is with reference to Khaled Ahmed’s article of October 5 titled “A strange word on wedding cards”. Yes, ‘na-kat-khuda’ is yet another manifestation of our regressive attitudes towards women. I have also noticed recently that the name of the bride is no longer mentioned on many wedding cards. Instead, she is referred to as ‘D/O’ as in ‘daughter of’. She might as well be referred to as ‘C/O’, or ‘cattle of’.

    Nicely pointing out by SK.

It is simply insulting to a woman who is at the centre of the occasion, that is to be ‘bride’ and her own name is missing from the wedding card. Just only to be mentioned as ‘D/O blah blah…..’. It is just disgusting. Is she a sheep or a cow not to be named. People even name their pets. What is there to publish her name on the card? It she such an insignificant creature?

Hope the womenfolk realize this soon and stand up to act against their right because they are the ones who can appropriately fight for their just right as individuals.
