Sunni Tehreek, which is a part of Tahaffuz Namoos-i-Risalat Mahaz— a wing consisting of eight different religious groups— started the protest march from Data Darbar accompanied with a heavy deployment of police.
According to Express 24/7 correspondent Rabia Mehmood, there were about 450-500 supporters of Qadri at the protest. The police shelled the protesters who were pelting stones as a part of their protest.
Mehmood reported that the protesters staged a sit-in and have refused to end the protest.
Earlier, the police were put on high alert to counter possible riots following the death sentence imposed on Qadri. Over the weekend several right-wing political parties and religious groups rallied against the verdict to hang Qadri and some of them have threatened further protests.
Officials in law enforcement agencies said the police were alerted after intelligence suggested that organisations such as Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), an umbrella outfit for several dozen Barelvi outfits, were planning protests that may turn violent, especially in Punjab.
The SIC and Tahaffuz Namoos-i-Risalat Mahaz also announced that they would mark October 7 as a “black day” and organise protests all over the country.
The Lahore High Court recently banned rallies on The Mall after traders who work in the area moved a petition complaining that the protests hurt their businesses.
On Saturday, stick-wielding protestors roamed the markets on The Mall and pressed the traders to shut their stores, according to trader groups.
An anti-terrorism court (ATC) sentenced Qadri to death on Saturday on two counts for the murder of former Punjab governor Salmaan Taseer. The self-confessed killer’s defence pleas, which invoked religious sentiments and argued the accused was provoked into the act, were dismissed by the court.
Qadri was employed as one of the governor’s bodyguards when he shot Taseer dead in Islamabad on January 4.

Barelvis form the moderate religious force in Pakistan and continuously being targeted for their opposition to Talibans. Those who call them extremists live in a fools' paradise. Extremist is someone who crosses the line(hadd) drawn by any code (e.g. Islam). We can call Salman Taseer as extremist as he crossed the line drawn by our religion by calling an Islamic Law as 'Black Law' and openly declaring Aisa (mal'oon) as innocent. Being Governor of Punjab he was supposed to be neutral under the constitution but he crossed that line too. Since, he was immune from being prosecuted till his governorship lasts, Mr. Qadri (the Ghazi) took the responsibility to impose the hadd again! Courts verdict is not the final one, the final will be played after qayyamah so everyone be patient and wait for it!
Please save the Land of the Pure from the Madmen trying to destroy the country. Stop giving in to the Mullahs and Madmen. Enough is enough.
I am sorry to say but all these protestors are Pakistani. After all this is what Pakistan has become - a non-tolerant society.
I wonder if it is allowed in Islam to kill a human – regardless of what his beliefs/sins are? Can anyone take law into his/her hand and deliver a verdict? If so then let’s decisde first which one of these sects are correct? Aren’t all these mollah’s, who were invented by Zia ul Haq, are as power hungry as our politicians are? They are using religion for their personal gains. If Islam is their religion then they must first learn to show mercy and respect other humans, regardless of their religious beliefs.
Don't know what they are protesting about? They should be happy that he is going straight to paradise. What's the fuss? They should rather be busy in preparing a mausoleum for him. Wasting their time. Aren't they?
Our nation must be going mad because I dont understand how educated people can support these evil extremists, this is a sad day for Islam and Pakistan. We all know of the story of the Jew woman who used to throw garbage on him when he passed below her house, one day she did not throw garbage and he went to inquire about her health, she was so touched by his kindness she accepted Islam on her deathbed.

I ask the supporters of Qadri, if one day I come and shoot one of your family members dead, and ue an excuse that I did not agree with their religious belief, what will you feel then.
