Leaders demand CM's resignation for alleged involvement in death of Syed Mohammad Yousuf in police custody.

Express October 03, 2011

The uproar by legislators from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) led to chaos in the provincial assembly of India's northern Jammu and Kashmir on Monday, reported Express 24/7.

The leaders of PDP demanded resignation of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah over his alleged involvement in the death of Syed Mohammad Yusuf of the ruling regional party National Conference.

Yusuf died in police custody on Friday after he was handed over from the Chief Minister's residence on charges of corruption.

He had been accused by party colleagues of taking Rs1.5 billion for getting them a berth in the state legislature.

Protests broke out in Srinagar over Yusuf's custodial death.

So far, four police officials, including the chief minister's personal security officer, have faced transfers due to the controversial case.
