LAHORE: Vitamin D deficiency is a serious health problem that can result in osteoporosis, a disease which affects 55 per cent of women aged 45 to 54 in Pakistan, said University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Nawaz on Sunday.Dr Nawaz said that 97 per cent of Pakistani women aged 75 to 84 were affected by the disease, which leaves bones weak and fragile. He said that Vitamin D was crucial to maintaining a strong immune system. It also fights cancer, depression, high blood pressure and cardiovascular problems, he said. He was speaking about the affects of Calcium and Vitamin D deficiency at a seminar arranged by Abbot Laboratories and Nutritional Health Consultant.
